The Chinese culture and philosophies played an important role in development of various art forms in Japan prior to 9th century. Later on, secular arts gained importance and it was under the influence of Western, Zen and indigenous philosophies that modern Japanese art flourished. An overview of various art forms of Japan is presented through this article.
Modern Japanese Art
The modern art in Japan is highly influenced by the urban lifestyle. The paintings, sculptures and craft works are some of the forms used for artistic expression in this country. Although, urban influence is visible in modern art, most of the basic techniques used in Japanese traditional art remain the same. About 75% of population of Japan lives in cities. Contemporary Japanese Art
Modern form of painting in Japan is different from the ancient ones in the sense that it originated in the post-war period (1945 onwards). Today’s art works draw inspiration from the traditional concepts and ideologies of Japan. However, artists from this country have also been able to give their works an international touch. The Concepts and the Beliefs of Modern Art

Art is a human creative skill, which is demonstrated through imaginative designs, sounds, or ideas. Art and artistic skills have been integral to our Histories. Events, life styles, and the other prevalent things, were all depicted through the various art forms of those times. Art has been evolving with thoughts, ideas, events, times, and technological developments, and is the father of today’s Graphical Illusions.
The Ancient History of Art dates back to as many as 2 million years ago, to the Stone Age. The first Stone Tools used to create impressions, can be said to be the initial ideas of Art. Ancient Art is actually a symbolic representation of information about the life styles and the representation of facts by the people of those times, who framed a strong ground for Art. Since then, Art has been transforming to accommodate the changes and the improvements of every era to suit connoisseurs’ tastes and ideas.
